Soft-Story Retrofitting
Buildings with open ground floors or parking levels are among the most at risk during earthquakes. Soft-Story Retrofitting reinforces these weak areas with engineered steel framing and structural supports that stabilize the lower level.
Earthquake Brace & Bolting
If a structure is not properly secured to its foundation, seismic shaking can cause it to shift or slide. Earthquake Brace & Bolting installs anchor bolts and bracing hardware that keep the building firmly connected to its base.
Foundation Repair Services
Cracks, settlement, and deteriorating concrete can compromise structural stability. Foundation Repair Services strengthen and stabilize the foundation so the building can better withstand seismic stress.
Tenant Habitability Program (THP)
For occupied buildings, retrofit construction must follow tenant protection guidelines. The Tenant Habitability Program (THP) helps coordinate compliance, communication, and scheduling during the retrofit process.
Communication and quality! What is most important. Highly recommended

Project Spotlight: Vinton Avenue Soft-Story Retrofit, Los Angeles
A 2-story, 7-8 unit wood-frame building with tuck-under parking, built under codes predating January 1, 1978. We designed and installed braced moment-resisting steel frames and cantilevered steel columns to eliminate the soft-story vulnerability.
Why Is Earthquake Retrofitting Necessary?
Los Angeles County is crisscrossed by major fault lines like the San Andreas and Hollywood Faults. This puts your building at high risk of damage during seismic events, and the 1994 Northridge earthquake proved just how catastrophic earthquake forces can be against unreinforced buildings.
Older structures, especially soft-story buildings with weak ground floors, are particularly susceptible to collapse. That is why the City of Los Angeles and several other LA County cities have enacted mandatory retrofit ordinances for vulnerable wood-frame and non-ductile concrete buildings.
By investing in retrofitting today, you can:
- Minimize risk of collapse and injury
- Protect long-term property value
- Meet local seismic compliance standards
- Avoid costly post-earthquake repairs
